Subclass:
WORKING METALLIC POWDER; MANUFACTURE OF ARTICLES FROM METALLIC POWDER; MAKING METALLIC POWDER; APPARATUS OR DEVICES SPECIALLY ADAPTED FOR METALLIC POWDER

Description

B22F covers the entire spectrum of metallic powder technology, including production methods (atomization, comminution, gas or water separation), consolidation processes (sintering, hot isostatic pressing, compaction), and specialized equipment for handling metal powders. This subclass encompasses powder metallurgy techniques for manufacturing finished components and semi-finished products, as well as apparatus designed specifically for metallic powder operations. Related casting technologies are addressed in the parent class B22, while general powder handling methods appear in B01B.

Scope Notes

Glossary: Compacting join or press firmly together. Sintering forming powder into a coherent mass by heating the powder whereby adjacent particles are joined by diffusion or superficial melting. Alloy alloys a composition of plural elements at least one of which is a free metal. Also includes material containing any combination of fibres, filaments, whiskers and particles, e.g. carbides, diamond, oxides, borides, nitrides or sulfides, embedded in a metallic matrix. Furnace furnaces covers kilns, ovens or retorts | Limiting references: Making non-ferrous alloy compositions by powder metallurgy Making non-ferrous alloys from mixtures of metallic powder with non-metallic powder Alloys containing diamond Alloys based on metal compounds, e.g. cermets Non-ferrous alloys containing metal compounds Making ferrous alloys by powder metallurgy Making alloys containing metallic or non-metallic fibres or filaments by powder metallurgy | Application references: Making ceramics by compacting or sintering Shaped ceramic products characterised by their composition Burning or sintering process for ceramic compositions Production or refining of metals; Pretreatment of raw materials for obtaining metals Sintering; Agglomerating of raw materials for obtaining metals Electrolytic production, recovery or refining of metallic powder Magnets or magnetic bodies characterised by the magnetic materials in the form of particles, e.g. powder , Magnets made by pressing, sintering or bonding metals or alloys in the form of particles, e.g. powder, together , Magnetic cores made from powder Devices using superconductivity or hyperconductivity characterised by the material
