Description

B22D encompasses casting processes and equipment for metals and non-metallic materials that employ similar casting methodologies. This subclass covers traditional casting techniques including sand casting, die casting, investment casting, and continuous casting, as well as associated foundry operations such as mold preparation, pouring systems, and cooling methods. The scope extends to casting of ceramics, plastics, and other substances when performed using metal casting apparatus or processes, but excludes metallurgical processes and powder metallurgy techniques classified elsewhere in B22.
