F02P covers spark ignition systems and related control mechanisms for internal combustion engines, excluding compression-ignition diesel engines. This includes spark plugs, ignition coils, ignition timing control systems, and electronic ignition circuits used in gasoline and gas engines. The subclass also encompasses testing and diagnostic methods for verifying ignition timing accuracy in compression-ignition engines, which require specialized measurement techniques despite their self-igniting fuel mixtures.
