G05D

SYSTEMS FOR CONTROLLING OR REGULATING NON-ELECTRIC VARIABLES

Introduced: September 1968

Description

G05D covers automatic control and regulation systems for physical variables that are not primarily electrical in nature, such as temperature, pressure, flow rate, liquid level, speed, and mechanical position. These systems employ various sensing, feedback, and actuating mechanisms—including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and thermal devices—to maintain desired setpoints or respond to process changes. The class encompasses both continuous regulation systems and systems with discrete control logic implemented through non-electrical means. G05D excludes control systems where the controlled variable is inherently electrical (covered by G05B) and excludes the control systems' electrical or electronic components when classified separately.

Of 31 combined children, 19 exist in both systems.

6 codes are CPC-only extensions, 6 exist only in IPC.

Note: 6 CPC extensions are marked as secondary classification only.

7 shared codes have differing titles between IPC and CPC.
