CODING; DECODING; CODE CONVERSION IN GENERAL (using fluidic means F15C4/00; optical analogue/digital converters G02F7/00; coding, decoding or code conversion, specially adapted for particular applications, see the relevant subclasses, e.g. G01D, G01R, G06F, G06T, G09G, G10L, G11B, G11C, H04B, H04L, H04M, H04N; ciphering or deciphering for cryptography or other purposes involving the need for secrecy G09C)

Introduced: January 1985

Description

H03M covers the design and implementation of electronic circuits and devices for encoding, decoding, and converting information between different coding schemes and signal formats. This includes analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), digital-to-analog converters (DACs), error-correcting code circuits, modulation and demodulation circuits, and general data conversion systems. The subclass addresses the physical circuitry and hardware implementations rather than the mathematical algorithms or software aspects of coding theory. Related signal processing and transmission topics are handled in adjacent classes such as H04L (digital information transmission) and G06F (digital computing).

IPC and CPC are identically structured here. All 8 subcodes exist in both systems.

4 shared codes have differing titles between IPC and CPC.

IPC defines codes here since 1985.
