Description

C14C covers chemical, enzymatic, and microbiological processing of animal skins, hides, and leather, including tanning, impregnation, and finishing operations. This subclass encompasses tanning agents and compositions (mineral, vegetable, synthetic), enzymes and microorganisms used in leather processing, and apparatus designed for treatment applications. It addresses both traditional and modern leather production methods, including hide preservation, coloration, water-resistance treatment, and surface finishing. Glossary: Fur furs The body hair of non-human mammals, also known as the pelage. Hide hides Body covering or skin of an animal. Leather leathers Animal hide or skin, which has been tanned. Pasting process pasting processes An industrial process for stretching and drying wet skins, which have been glued (pasted) on a plane surface before. Pelt pelts The skin of an animal with hair, fur, or wool still attached. Tanning A chemical treatment for animal hides or skins, making them soft and durable by preventing decomposition. Technical leather A leather that withstands tough wear and tear and is used, for instance, in the automotive and aviation industries (e.g. belts).
