F05C INDEXING SCHEME RELATING TO MATERIALS, MATERIAL PROPERTIES OR MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS FOR MACHINES, ENGINES OR PUMPS OTHER THAN NON-POSITIVE-DISPLACEMENT MACHINES OR ENGINES
Description
F05C is an indexing scheme used to classify materials, material properties, and material characteristics relevant to machines, engines, and pumps covered in classes F01–F04, excluding non-positive-displacement machines and engines. This classification enables retrieval of patents by material composition or properties (e.g., elastomers, metals, ceramics, wear resistance, thermal stability) when applied to positive-displacement engines, reciprocating engines, rotary engines, or pump systems. It serves as a cross-referencing tool rather than a primary classification, allowing systematic organization of technical disclosures by material type across multiple engine and pump technologies. The scheme does not apply to materials in non-positive-displacement machines (such as turbines or centrifugal pumps), which are indexed separately.
