MACHINES OR ENGINES FOR LIQUIDS (positive-displacement engines for liquid F03C; machines for liquids and gases F01; positive-displacement machines for liquids F04, rotary fluid gearing of the hydrokinetic type F16H41/00)

Introduced: September 1968

Description

F03B covers turbomachinery and reciprocating devices that convert energy between flowing or pressurized liquids and mechanical work, including turbines, pumps, compressors, and hydraulic motors. This subclass encompasses both impulse and reaction turbines driven by water or other liquids, as well as positive-displacement and dynamic machines where liquid serves as the working medium. Related reciprocating engines driven by liquid pressure or flow are included, though steam and gas engines are classified separately in F03C and F03D respectively.
