H99Z SUBJECT MATTER NOT OTHERWISE PROVIDED FOR IN THIS SECTION
Introduced: January 2006
Description
H99Z is a residual classification for electrical inventions and subject matter that do not fit within the defined scope of any other class or subclass in Section H (Electricity). This category serves as a catch-all for novel or emerging electrical technologies, unconventional applications, or hybrid systems that fall outside established classification boundaries. Examiners and classifiers should exhaust all relevant main classes (H01–H98) before assigning documents to H99Z. As a practical matter, assignment to this code is typically temporary, pending development of more specific classifications as technologies mature.
IPC and CPC are identically structured here. All 1 subcodes exist in both systems.
IPC defines codes here since 2006.
