SUPERHEATING OF STEAM

Introduced: September 1968

Classification Context

Section:
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING; LIGHTING; HEATING; WEAPONS; BLASTING
Class:
STEAM GENERATION
Subclass:
SUPERHEATING OF STEAM

Description

F22G covers apparatus and methods for raising steam temperature above saturation point to improve thermodynamic efficiency in steam power systems. This includes superheater designs using heat exchange surfaces, control mechanisms for superheat temperature regulation, and integration with boiler units. The classification encompasses both convective and radiant heat transfer superheaters, as well as systems for attemperation (cooling) of excessively superheated steam. Adjacent classes F22B (steam boiler construction) and F22D (steam generation plant control) address boiler design and plant-level regulation respectively.
