F23G

CREMATION FURNACES; CONSUMING WASTE PRODUCTS BY COMBUSTION

Introduced: September 1968

Description

F23G covers furnaces designed for cremation of human or animal remains, as well as combustion systems for disposing of waste materials or burning low-grade fuels. This subclass includes the structural design, heat management, emission control, and operational features of crematory equipment and waste-to-energy combustion installations. Technologies addressing ash handling, temperature regulation, and pollution mitigation in such facilities fall within this scope, whereas general industrial furnaces for standard fuel combustion are classified elsewhere under F23.

Glossary

air a mixture of gases containing free oxygen and able to promote or support combustion primary air air supplied to the burning fuel in order to liberate combustible gases secondary air air supplied to the combustible gases liberated by the primary air in order to complete their combustion. The expression "secondary air" covers "tertiary air" etc. Burner burners a device by which fluid fuel or solid fuel suspended in air is passed to a combustion space where it burns to produce a self-supporting flame. A burner includes the means for feeding air that are arranged in immediate connection with a fuel feeding conduit, for example concentric with it. Combustion a heat-producing sequence of chemical reactions between a burnable substance and molecular oxygen, e.g. in air, in most cases generating light in the form of flames or a glow Combustion chamber combustion chambers a chamber in which fuel is burned to establish a self-supporting fire or flame and which surrounds that fire or flame combustion zone combustion zones the part of a combustion apparatus where the reaction takes place between air and fuel fuel Fuels any combustible material that can be burned, regardless of whether the main purpose of burning it is for releasing energy therefrom or for disposing of it or rendering it less harmful waste an undesired material that can be consumed by combustion for the primary purpose of disposing of it or rendering it less harmful, and not solely for releasing energy therefrom

CPC subdivides this area 5x more granularly than IPC with 11 additional codes.

11 codes are CPC-only extensions.

Note: 11 CPC extensions are marked as secondary classification only.

3 shared codes have differing titles between IPC and CPC.
